Job summary

Transwestern is seeking an Assistant Building Engineer for our Washington, DC site. This on-site, second-shift role handles maintenance across HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general systems, working under the Chief Engineer.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED with at least two years of related experience, basic MS Office skills, and a thorough understanding of building systems. Strong customer service and safety mindset are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with at least two years of related maintenance experience.
• Minimum two years building maintenance experience.
• Thorough knowledge of building systems operations, maintenance and repair.
• CFC certification preferred or working toward certification; local or state license in mechanical/HVAC.
• Valid driver’s license (may be required).
• Knowledgeable in energy management systems, techniques and operations.
• Basic skills with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
• Thorough understanding of HVAC, electrical and building automation systems.

Responsibilities

• Assist with troubleshooting and repairs of buildings and installed systems including plumbing, kitchen equipment, roofs, drains and HVAC.
• Perform general preventive maintenance and corrective repair of buildings, industrial systems, equipment, and grounds.
• Maintain all equipment as required per preventive maintenance programs.
• Inspect building systems including fire alarms, HVAC, and plumbing to ensure operation as designed and environmental conditions.
• Respond quickly to emergency situations, summoning additional assistance as needed.
• Maintain an energy management program to operate systems efficiently and minimize costs.
• Maintain the building lighting system, including element and ballast repairs or replacements.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
