Job summary

Centerline Logistics seeks a capable Second Mate to act as third in command on oil barges, supporting the Captain and Chief Mate. The role includes cargo operations, safety oversight, and training deckhands in seamanship and equipment use.

You will maintain charts and paperwork, assist in barge landings, and ensure compliance with Coast Guard and company safety practices. A CDL/Coast Guard license is required.

Qualifications

• Must hold a valid Mate Coast Guard license 200 GT near Coastal or Oceans with radar observer endorsement or higher.
• Tankerman PIC or Tankerman Assist preferred.
• Experience as a Mate/Master of a tug hauling oil barges.

Responsibilities

• Stand wheelhouse watch with Captain and Chief Mate.
• Oversee safety of vessel and inspections.
• Assist in cargo operations and barge landings.
• Train assigned workers in seamanship and equipment use.
• Maintain charts, publications, and paperwork.
• Ensure compliance with safety practices and company policies.
• Operate and monitor vessel equipment and supports.

Education

Coast Guard license 200 GT near Coastal or Oceans with radar observer endorsement or higher

Tankerman PIC or Tankerman Assist (preferred)

Experience as Mate or Master of a tug hauling oil barges

Knowledge of Coast Guard/state requirements for transfer operations

Completion of Coast Guard firefighting training

First aid certificate and CPR training

HAZWOPER training (within 30 days of hire)

Ability to read/speak English over radio/telephone
