Job summary

Johnson Service Group is seeking a contract Designer III to work in Gainesville, TX. This role coordinates design of seats and seat components, interfaces with the Program Manager on project development and design progress, and reviews requirements to ensure conformance with specifications and deadlines.

The candidate will use CATIA V5 or Pro/Engineer, prepare layouts and drawings, and collaborate with customers and vendors while mentoring junior engineers to ensure on-time delivery.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Aerospace/Automotive Engineering or related field; 12 years experience may be substituted.
• Master's degree in the same fields is acceptable.
• 5 years of related design experience with a Bachelor's; 4 years with a Master's.
• Excellent drafting skills in CATIA V5 or Pro/Engineer; knowledge of aircraft seat products.
• Ability to read and review written communication; strong written English; able to work with multiple departments.
• Mentor less experienced engineers; good planning and prioritizing skills; strong collaboration.
• Desirable: APQP, DFMEA, Control Plan

Responsibilities

• Confers with customers and vendors on design requirements for seat programs.
• Reviews design specs and incorporates them into products.
• Prepares layouts of overall design tasks including structure and articulation systems.
• Defines design standards to maintain commonality with existing products.
• Prepares advanced bill of materials and long-lead item lists.
• Reviews design packages for conformance to specs and regulations.
• Prepares drawings for release and coordinates with manufacturing stages.
• Interacts with engineering, tooling, and manufacturing departments; mentors others.
