Job summary

H&R Block, Inc. is actively seeking a seasonal Experienced Tax Professional to assist clients with complex tax situations, prepare accurate returns, and reveal savings opportunities using our training and technology.

This in-person role is based at a local H&R Block tax office. You will interview clients, assess financial scenarios, provide clear recommendations, and deliver empathetic, consultative service while ensuring IRS and state requirements are met.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of the H&R Block Tax Knowledge Assessment 1
• Minimum 1 year of experience in tax preparation, accounting, finance, or bookkeeping, including preparing individual and business returns
• Experience in a client facing, consultative, or advisory role
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, including explaining tax concepts in client-friendly language
• Must complete continuing education and meet IRS/state requirements
• High school diploma / GED / equivalent required
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field (preferred)
• 5+ years of experience in tax preparation, accounting, finance, bookkeeping (preferred)
• CPA or Enrolled Agent (EA) or IRS Circular 230 credential (preferred)
• Experience with complex returns, tax planning, or audit support (preferred)
• Familiarity with GoSystem or Ultratax (preferred)
• Familiarity with AI-powered tools (Copilot, ChatGPT) (preferred)
• Consultative/advisory client relationship experience (preferred)

Responsibilities

• Prepare complete tax returns for clients with diverse situations
• Conduct in-depth client interviews to understand financials and implications
• Provide personalized tax-saving recommendations and cross-sell HRB products
• Provide IRS support, audit guidance, and tax notice resolution
• Collaborate with team and maintain a client-focused office environment
