Job summary

The Illinois Department of Transportation is seeking temporary Snow Removal Operators for the 2026/2027 Snow and Ice Season. The Snow Removal Operators perform maintenance, repair and upkeep of roads, bridges and related structures, often outdoors in winter conditions.

These are hourly, on-call, non-benefit positions with a scheduled season. CDL Class B is required for seasonal work, with progression to Class A; typical shift patterns vary with weather and demand.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or equivalent.
• Seasonal employees may use CDL Class B with endorsements for two years; must advance to Class A with endorsements by year three.
• One year driving experience with a clean record.

Responsibilities

• Operates CDL Class A or B licensed vehicles.
• Assists in emergency snow and ice control.
• Serves in maintenance, washing, and minor repairs of equipment such as trucks, snowplows and salt spreaders.
• Performs routine housekeeping duties and grounds care of the headquarters.
• Performs other duties as required within scope of job.
