Job summary

The Illinois Department of Transportation is seeking temporary Snow Removal Operators for the 2026/2027 season. These on-call, non-permanent positions involve operating CDL Class A or B vehicles and performing maintenance on roads, bridges and related structures.

Opportunities are available at the Vienna headquarters and in various team sections across Johnson County; anticipated hybrid schedule is 1–5 days per week in the office depending on weather, with locations in Benton, Elizabethtown,

Qualifications

• Requires completion of four years of high school.
• Seasonal employees may hold Class B CDL with endorsements including X or N for first two years; after year three must have Class A CDL with X/N and no airbrake restrictions.
• One year driving experience prior to appointment with no disqualifying incidents.

Responsibilities

• Operates CDL Class A or B licensed vehicles.
• Assists in emergency snow and ice control.
• Maintains and services equipment such as trucks, snowplows, salt spreaders, compressors and other light highway equipment.
• Performs routine housekeeping duties and other tasks related to grounds.
• Performs other duties as required within scope of duties.
