Job summary

The Chicago Botanic Garden is seeking a part-time Security Event Associate to help ensure the safety of visitors, staff and property during fall/winter events. You will patrol outdoor post locations, assist with traffic control, document incidents, and coordinate with security and emergency responders as needed.

Ideal candidates have at least one year of customer service experience, strong communication skills, and CPR/First Aid training (preferred).

Qualifications

• Minimum of one year experience in customer service.
• Security customer service experience preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• First aid and CPR training preferred.
• Availability to work evening shifts on both weekdays and weekends from October 5 through 25, 2026, for Night of 1,000 Jack-o’-Lanterns.
• Preference for continued availability to work shifts during Lightscape, from November 4, 2026, through January 3, 2027 (Lightscape incentive pay based on shifts).

Responsibilities

• Maintain the safety of visitors, employees, and property at the Garden while enforcing Garden rules and regulations.
• Provide information and assistance to the visitor in a pleasant, professional manner.
• Work closely with Visitor Services to provide the best information and service for the visitor.
• Assist with providing emergency first aid to employees and to visitors.
• Prepare accurate and clear reports of accidents, illness, theft, vandalism or any other unusual occurrences with immediate notification to Security Management.
• Perform responsibilities specific to each post as assigned for the event.
• Perform patrols including buildings, islands, gardens, and other Garden property. Control traffic whenever needed.
• Make appropriate Security Department operating and safety checks.
• Pick up and deliver persons and materials as needed.
• Assist Security Management in other areas as directed.
