Job summary

ITRCC in La Porte, IN is seeking a Seasonal Equipment Operator/Laborer to perform highway maintenance duties under detailed instruction. The role requires operating maintenance equipment safely while protecting workers and the motoring public.

Responsibilities include pre-trip inspections, snow and ice operations, fixing signs and guardrails, debris removal and inventory of supplies. The position is not eligible for a modified or hybrid work schedule.

Qualifications

• High school diploma/GED required.
• Ability to read and understand measurements.
• 1-2 years of general roadwork experience.
• Previous snow plowing experience.
• Working knowledge of highway maintenance practices.
• Certificate in welding, bucket truck, back hoe and forklift.

Responsibilities

• Performs all tasks safely and complies with safety requirements.

• Performs maintenance activities as described for a labor position when trained.
• Complete pre-trip vehicle inspection.
• Periodically operate patrol vehicle for incident response and motorist aid.
• Check vehicle and fuel at end of shift.
• Participates in snow and ice operations.
• Fix signs and guardrails, pick up trash and debris.
• Conduct inventory of supplies.
• Maintain fleet vehicles and equipment in safe condition.
