Qualifications

  • Merchant Mariner Credential is required.
  • Master of Towing (Near Coastal) certification is required.
  • Radar Observer Unlimited certification is required.
  • TWIC card is required.
  • Valid Driver License required.
  • Alaska towing experience including Western Alaska Rivers and Arctic regions preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the safe operation of an assigned vessel and crew.
  • Command vessel into and out of harbors, estuaries, straits, sounds, rivers, lakes and bays.
  • Adhere to QSEMS, QAM, and OPM policies and procedures.
  • Provide direction, coordination, and evaluation of vessel and crew.
  • Determine course and towing speed based on local conditions and use navigation devices.
