City and County of San Francisco is seeking seasonal Ballot Processing Junior Clerks (1402 Junior Clerk) to support ballot-processing tasks during peak Election Day and post-election periods. Work may be one day or multiple days beginning November 3, 2026, with shifts up to 12 hours and overtime at 1.5x hourly rate.

On-site at City Hall, SF, with possible duties at Pier 31 warehouse or other locations. Assignments are short-term and exempt, with schedules set by the Department of Elections.

Responsibilities

• Perform ballot sorting, backfolding, extraction, and other ballot-preparation tasks according to established procedures.
• Open and process vote-by-mail and provisional ballot envelopes according to established procedures.
• Prepare and organize ballots for scanning and tabulation.
• Assist with ballot adjudication as a verifier/reader, using established procedures and instructions.
• Assist with the movement and organization of ballots between designated processing areas according to established procedures.
• Maintain routine processing counts, logs, labels, and other basic documentation as instructed.
• Sort and organize vote-by-mail envelopes and other election materials for processing or record retention.
• Organize, assemble, stage, and distribute ballots, election supplies, and other materials as directed.
• Perform other basic clerical, ballot-processing, and post-election tasks as assigned based on operational needs.
