Summary:

Under the supervision of the Road and Bridge Foreman, the Asphalt Laborer will maintain and repair asphalt roads. Responsibilities include providing physical labor on-site, operating machinery safely, assisting skilled trades, loading/unloading deliveries, and maintaining a safe work environment. This position is seasonal for 90 days.

Minimum Requirements:

Driving: Valid Kansas CDL Class A license and insurable by the nation's insurance.

Experience: 2-5 years in highway construction/maintenance, knowledge of traffic laws, safe operation of heavy equipment, and good attendance record.

Education: High school diploma or GED.

Interpersonal Skills: Courtesy, tact, diplomacy, and good communication skills are essential.

Knowledge:

• Road Maintenance & Truck Driving: Knowledge of materials, tools, and methods used in asphalt roadwork, and operation of trucks including end dumps.
• Public Safety & Security: Knowledge of safety policies, hazardous materials, traffic hazards, and heavy equipment safety.
• Mechanical & Mathematical: Knowledge of equipment maintenance and basic mathematics for mixing materials.
• English Grammar: Strong communication skills in English, both written and oral.

Skills:

• Operational Skills: Monitoring gauges and indicators to ensure proper machine operation.
• Interpersonal Skills: Open to ideas, works independently and in teams.
• Dependability: Punctual, follows instructions, responds well to feedback.
