Job summary

Maine Department of Transportation’s Maine State Ferry Service seeks an Intermittent Able-Bodied Seafarer to operate aboard ferry vessels serving coastal and island routes from Rockland, ME.

Candidates must hold a USCG Merchant Mariners Document AB endorsement and a current TWIC; pre-employment drug screening and physicals are required. On-island duty, state housing may be provided, along with per diem meals.

Qualifications

• Experience as deck crew member on ocean or coastal routes.
• Ability to assist in loading/unloading and mooring operations.
• Knowledge of vessel safety procedures and lifeboat drills.

Responsibilities

• Handle mooring lines during docking/undocking operations.
• Verify and collect boarding tickets; assist loading/unloading of passengers and vehicles.
• Perform cleaning and painting of vessel interiors and exteriors; inspect gear and compartments.
