Job summary

GALLS, LLC is seeking a skilled Seamstress/Tailor to perform alterations and sewing for uniforms and equipment. You will read customer needs, take measurements, and mark garments for alteration, while operating heat press and industrial sewing machines with precision.

Role emphasizes attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to follow work instructions in English; training is provided for equipment and alteration techniques. This is a full-time on-site position in Richmond, VA.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience in alterations preferred; training provided.
• Proficient with industrial sewing machines; training provided.
• Ability to read/receive work instructions in English.
• Detail-oriented and quality-focused; low tolerance for mistakes.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to stand or sit for long periods and lift as needed.

Responsibilities

What You Will Do

• Read and accurately identify the customer's needs per the Work Instruction Document
• Take necessary measurements and mark garments for alterations, with the ability to problem-solve individual sizing issues
• Operate a heat press safely and efficiently
• Perform uniform sewing, alterations, and embellishments with accuracy and efficiency, to include taking up stride, lengthening/shortening tails on shirts, tapering shirts, adjusting waists, hemming trousers, mending tears, replacing zippers, applying patches, applying name strips, applying striping, and applying patches
• Operate industrial sewing machinery and meet production deadlines
• Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs

What You Will Bring

• High school diploma or GED equivalent required
• Previous experience in Alterations preferred. GALLS will train!
• Well-versed in industrial Sewing machines, preferred. GALLS will train!
• Ability to effectively read/receive work instructions in English
• Extremely detail-oriented and quality-focused - you're not happy with mistakes
• Solid communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
• Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time, bend, stretch, twist, and lift, with or without reasonable accommodation
