Job summary

GM Financial is seeking a Scrum Master II to guide and coach multiple Scrum teams in applying Agile values and the Scrum framework. You will protect teams, remove impediments, and foster a safe, collaborative environment that promotes accountability and transparency.

You will partner with Product Owners to refine backlogs, ensure priority alignment with business value, and facilitate key Scrum ceremonies to deliver high-value outcomes for customers.

Qualifications

  • Scrum Master Certification (CSM or PSM) or PMI-ACP required.
  • 2–4 years experience as Scrum Master.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or additional equivalent work or military experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Guiding and coaching the Scrum Teams on how to apply agile values and principles, and use the Scrum Framework to delight customers.
  • Protect the development team from outside influences and remove impediments.
  • Build a trusting and safe environment where problems can be raised without blame.
  • Facilitate getting the work done without coercion, assigning, or dictating the work.
  • Assist with internal and external communication, improving transparency, and radiating information.
  • Support and educate the Product Owner, refine and order the product backlog.
  • Work with Product Owner to ensure backlog is visible and prioritized towards business value.
  • Facilitate Scrum events such as Daily Scrum, Sprint Planning, Sprint Reviews, and Retrospectives.
  • Empower the team to be self-organized.

Responsibilities

About the role:

The Scrum Master II is an experienced Scrum Master who excels at guiding and coaching Scrum teams in the application of Agile values, principles, and the Scrum framework to deliver high-value outcomes for customers. They are skilled at protecting development teams from external distractions, removing impediments, and fostering a safe, trusting environment where team members can openly raise concerns without fear of blame. Their approach emphasizes collaboration, problem-solving, and team empowerment, enabling teams to become self-organized and accountable. They facilitate key Scrum ceremonies, including Daily Scrums, Sprint Planning, Sprint Reviews, and Retrospectives, while promoting transparency and effective communication across stakeholders. Additionally, they work closely with Product Owners to ensure the product backlog is visible, well-refined, and prioritized according to business value, helping align delivery efforts with organizational goals.

In this role you will:

  • Guiding and coaching the Scrum Teams on how to apply agile values and principles, and use the Scrum Framework to delight customers
  • Protect the development team from outside influences and remove impediments
  • Building a trusting and safe environment where problems can be raised without fear of blame, retribution, or being judged, with an emphasis on healing and problem solving
  • Facilitating getting the work done without coercion, assigning, or dictating the work
  • Assisting with internal and external communication, improving transparency, and radiating information
  • Supporting and educating the Product Owner, especially with respect to refining and ordering the product backlog
  • Working closely with the Product Owner to ensure product backlog is visible and prioritized towards business value
  • Facilitating various Scrum events such as: Daily Scrum, Sprint Planning, Sprint Reviews, and Sprint Retrospectives
  • Empowering the team to be self-organized

What makes You an ideal candidate?

  • Must exhibit strong knowledge of agile frameworks including Scrum from multiple teams/products
  • Demonstrated evidence of a servant leadership mindset
  • Proficient in the use of Agile delivery tools such as TFS, Jira or Azure DevOps
  • Demonstrated evidence of continuous learning mindsetAbility to teach and train on Agile, Scrum, Kanban at a level accessible to beginners and dive deep for advanced topics
  • A change agent; progressively challenging the team to continuously improve
  • Good understanding of product and sprint backlog tracking, burn down metrics and velocity
  • Good negotiation, leadership, and written and verbal communication skills
  • Good knowledge, skills, and ability working in a collaborative team environment
  • Excellent people skills, with an ability to understand and diverse viewpoints
  • High Emotional Intelligence (self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy and social skills)
  • Ability to understand GM Financials business; apply knowledge and critical thinking skills in day-to-day problems and solutions
  • Ability to facilitate, coach and guide through influence, inspiration, collaboration and teamwork
  • Ability to listen and communicate effectively with others both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to coach and train Agile teams about their role before, during and after PI Planning
  • Establish DoR, DoD with teams and Product owner on Story and Feature level wherever applicable
  • Support Release Train Engineer, IT Lead and business leaders by facilitating all the SAFe ceremonies including PI Planning, SOS, PO sync, inspect and adapt
  • Provides coaching and training to the Agile Team(s) on how to execute the Scrum framework
Qualifications

AI Skills Preferred:

  • Experience with AI assisted software development or automation
  • Knowledge of prompting techniques to improve output quality
  • Awareness of emerging GenAI capabilities and limitations

Work Experience and Education

  • Scrum Master Certification (CSM or PSM) or PMI-ACP Required
  • 2-4 years experience as Scrum Master Required
  • High School Diploma or equivalent Required
  • Bachelor’s Degree or additional equivalent work or military experience Preferred
