Job summary

GM Financial is seeking a strategic release engineering leader focused on shaping how software is built, released, and scaled globally. This role emphasizes AI-driven development, cloud-native architectures, and proactive automation with minimal on-call work.

You will lead efforts to define SLOs/SLIs, drive automated pipelines, and improve system reliability while collaborating across Agile teams to deliver robust software solutions.

Qualifications

  • Authority in defining, implementing, and evaluating SLOs/SLIs and consequences.
  • Software development expertise in multiple high-level programming and scripting languages.
  • Expert in evolutionary database design, query performance and indexing for scalable products.
  • Expert in designing, building, and optimizing automated pipelines with testing and security controls.
  • Expert in performing Root Cause Analysis and Problem Management.
  • Experience in Agile Scrum teams with demonstrated improvements.
  • Strong background in Java, C#, and scripting (PowerShell, Bash).
  • Expertise in DevOps, pipeline automation, and Azure cloud platforms.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools and practices.
  • Experience in Agile environments with a track record of driving improvements.

Responsibilities

Hybrid – 2 days onsite, 3 days remote per week

Responsibilities
  • Strategic Leadership: Define and evolve release engineering strategies that set the foundation for future development and deployment practices.
  • AI & Automation: Drive adoption of AI-powered tools (including GitHub Copilot) to enhance developer productivity and improve code quality.
  • Development Focus: Contribute to building robust, scalable software solutions while championing best practices in coding, testing, and automation.
  • Reliability Engineering: Establish service level objectives (SLOs) and indicators (SLIs) that align with business goals, ensuring resilience and performance.
  • Continuous Improvement: Design and implement automated pipelines, security controls, and monitoring solutions to minimize manual intervention and maximize uptime.

Qualifications
  • Authority in defining, implementing, and evaluating Service Level Objectives (SLO) and Service Level Indicators (SLI), and associated consequences.
  • Software development expertise in multiple high-level programming and scripting languages.
  • Expert in evolutionary database design, query performance analysis, and indexing as a cornerstone for delivering scalable, performant products and services.
  • Expert in designing, building, and optimizing automated pipelines with automated testing and automated security controls.
  • Expert in performing Root Cause Analysis and Problem Management.
  • Experience working in Agile Scrum teams with demonstrated success leading improvements (getting better/faster/happier).
  • Strong software development background in languages such as Java, C#, and scripting (PowerShell, Bash).
  • Expertise in DevOps, pipeline automation, and cloud platforms (Azure).
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools and practices.
  • Experience in Agile environments with a track record of driving improvements.
Experience And Education
  • 5-7 years experience in software development and test automation – Required.
  • 5-7 years of cloud experience – strongly Preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent work or military experience – Required.
