Job summary

The Government of Alberta’s Digital Design and Delivery division seeks a seasoned Scrum Master to guide cross-functional squads across multiple modernization initiatives. You will integrate AI tooling, automate workflows, and ensure predictable sprint delivery in a remote work setup.

Qualifications

This is a remote position. The Digital Design and Delivery (DDD) division is the Government of Alberta's hub for modern public service transformation. DDD partners with ministries across the province to build modern, simple, and reliable citizen-facing services using human-centered design, lean-agile delivery, and contemporary data systems. The Scrum Master guides cross-functional squads—encompassing product owners, UI/UX researchers, designers, and software engineers—across two or more concurrent digital modernization initiatives. Beyond conventional agile facilitation, this role requires hands‑on AI fluency and process automation literacy, integrating generative AI tooling, automated workflows, and structured delivery pipelines directly into day‑to‑day team operations.

Requirements

• Active Certified Scrum Master certification – Mandatory Agile Leadership & Ceremony Facilitation: Plan, facilitate, and optimize all core Scrum events across multiple squads (Sprint Planning, Daily Standups, Backlog Refinement, Sprint Reviews/Demos, and Retrospectives).
• Delivery Enablement & Blocker Removal: Proactively identify and eliminate impediments, dependencies, and external friction points to ensure predictable sprint commitments and feature releases.
• Product Owner & Squad Coaching: Guide GoA Product Owners on roadmap maintenance, user story elaboration, release planning, value-based backlog prioritization, and relative estimation techniques.
• AI-Augmented Delivery Operations: Actively deploy Generative AI and agentic tools into everyday delivery rituals for drafting requirements, synthesizing research and retro notes, structuring sprint metrics, and automating status summaries. Apply prompt design and validate outputs for privacy, security, and hallucination risks.
• Process Automation: Design and implement streamlined team intake forms, automated status dashboards, CI/CD integration checkpoints, and workflow automations to reduce manual administrative overhead.
• Metrics & Transparency: Maintain live, data-driven artifacts including sprint burndown, velocity trends, cumulative flow diagrams, and capacity models in Azure DevOps/Jira.
• Human-Centered Collaboration: Partner with UX/UI designers, user researchers, and service design teams during discovery sprints, usability testing, and field research sessions.

Candidate Qualifications & Criteria Mandatory Requirements (Must-Have)

• Active Scrum Master Certification: CSM, PSM I/II, or equivalent globally recognized credential.
• Agile Ceremony Leadership: Minimum 3 years leading and facilitating full-cycle Scrum events.
• Agile Delivery Experience: Minimum 3 years embedded directly in agile software development environments.
• Agile Team Coaching: Minimum 2 years coaching teams, Product Owners, and stakeholders in agile practices, estimation, and self‑organization.
• Security Clearance: Ability to pass a Government of Alberta Enhanced Background Check (fingerprint criminal record check + credit check).
• Location & Equipment: Must reside and work within Canada on a modern Windows (preferred) or macOS machine fully compatible with Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD).

Highly Desirable Assets (Nice-to-Have)

• Public Sector Experience: 4+ years delivering digital products within Canadian or North American public sector environments.
• Design Integration: 2+ years working alongside User Research (UR), Service Design, and UI/UX disciplines.
• AI & Automation Practice: 1+ years actively applying generative AI tools (prompts, RAG, workflow orchestration) to streamline project management and team routines.
• Technical SDLC & DevOps: 4+ years collaborating with automated CI/CD pipelines, test automation, and modern software architectures.
• Remote Training: 5+ years delivering interactive virtual training or coaching via Microsoft Teams or similar platforms.
