Job summary

SA Recycling is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator to safely operate an excavator with a shear attachment, cutting scrap metal to size for processing. The role requires daily inspections, adherence to safety rules, and clear communication with the team.

Work is outdoors in varying weather, typically Monday–Friday with overtime and potential Saturday hours. Candidates must pass a drug screen and background check and be able to lift light to moderate loads.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or GED or equivalent.
• 1 year excavator operations with shear attachment preferred.
• Ability to follow written or oral instructions.
• Ability to learn new tasks as assigned.
• Effective communication and basic math skills.
• Must pass medical, drug test and background check.

Responsibilities

• Operate excavator with shear to cut scrap metal to size.
• Inspect surroundings before and during operations.
• Verify materials meet safe operating parameters.
• Manipulate shear according to instructions within safe limits.
• Perform daily inspections and report defects.
• Observe operations to detect malfunctions and notify maintenance.
• Load material into chamber and push into cutter.
• Load/unload items from machines and conveyors.
• Clean equipment and work area at shift end.
• Keep work areas neat and orderly.
• Attend on-time and consistently is essential.
• Perform other duties as assigned and comply with safety rules.
