Job summary

  • Maintain housekeeping and perform equipment checks periodically.
  • Assist maintenance during down times and participate in continuous improvement programs.

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

The Scrap Crane Operator is a hands-on role. The Scrap Crane Operator is responsible for operating equipment to load, transport, and unload scrap baskets within the scrap yard. The Scrap Crane Operator must be able to sit for up to 12 hours a day and climb to heights of 100 feet by way of stairs and/or ladders.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  1. Loading of scrap baskets with stainless steel and carbon scrap per heat recipe
  2. Unloading of scrap from trucks and railroad cars and placing the scrap in the designated bin
  3. Perform any other crane operations as assigned
  4. Collaborate with leadership to train new operators
  5. Perform duties of EAF crane operator while covering a shift (if signed off on by leadership)
  6. Performed as necessary or when assigned by a supervisor
  7. Follow all prescribed safety rules
  8. Complete all housekeeping tasks
  9. Complete periodic maintenance check of equipment
  10. Assist maintenance with tasks during down times
  11. Perform any other duties as assigned
  12. Participate in the continuous improvement programs designed for Melt Shop Operations
SUPPLEMENTAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  2. Participation in relevant continuous improvement programs.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  1. Minimum of High School Diploma or GED.
  2. Must work well with others.
  3. Good communication skills
  4. Time Management Skills
  5. Basic Computer Skills.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES REQUIRED
  • Mobility in plant
  • While performing the duties of (this job), the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, etc.
  • The employee is frequently required to make use of their hands for technical tasks
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Visual ability with or without correction
  • Communication abilities
  • Must be able to climb a ladder
HEALTH AND SAFETY
  1. Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations
  2. Follow Company safety rules
  3. Report the absence of or defect in any protective equipment or clothing to the Supervisor or Manager immediately
  4. Use or wear the equipment, protective devices or clothing that is required to be used or worn:
    • a. Safety shoes
    • b. Safety glasses
    • c. Hearing protection
    • d. Hard Hat
    • e. Respirators; the respirator requires you to be clean shaven in order to comply with company policies and procedures as well as OSHA Regulations.
    • f. Fire Retardant clothing
    • g. Acid PPE
  5. Report to the Safety Coordinator, Group Lead or Supervisor any contravention of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations or Company policy
  6. Must follow all Lock out Tag out (LOTO) guidelines for designated machines
  7. Must follow all Environmental Policies and Regulations
  8. Maintain a clean and safe work area
