GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
The position of Refractory Crane Operator /Vacation Coverage Operator is responsible for all aspects of the refractory position as listed below. Complete understanding of the refractory area is essential in order to meet the productivity standards as defined in the quality system.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Run the overhead crane.
- Assist the Refractory Shift Leader, as well as the Refractory Group.
- Leader in day to day operations.
- Know how to install refractory in all melt shop vessels, i.e. Electric Arc Furnace, AOD, Ladles, Slab and Billet Tundishes, Emergency boxes,
- Operate all refractory equipment, i.e. Fork truck, overhead crane, jib cranes, mixer, tundish tilt dump, gunning machines. air rammers, vibrating sleds, vibrating forks, and any other equip. for refractory.
- Supervise contract labor force in the installation of above mentioned duties.
- Log all refractory consumables.
- Housekeeping
- Contact maintenance when needed to repair equipment.
- Cover shifts for refractory shift leader when needed.
- Follow all safety procedures.
- Perform other tasks as defined by the Refractory Shift Leader, Group Leader or Refractory Supervisor
SUPPLEMENTAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Other duties as assigned
- Participation in relevant continuous improvement programs.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of a High School Degree or Equivalent (GED)
- Must work well with others
- Good Communication Skills
- Time Management skills
- Basic Computer skills
PHYSICAL ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Mobility in plant
- While performing the duties of (this job), the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, etc.
- The employee is frequently required to make use of their hands for technical tasks
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
- Visual ability with or without correction
- Communication abilities
- Depth Perception for crane.
- Ability to work a rotating shift ( rotating days to nights weekly or bi-weekly schedule)
HEALTH AND SAFETY
- Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations
- Follow Company safety rules
- Report the absence of or defect in any protective equipment or clothing to the Supervisor or Manager immediately
- Use or wear the equipment, protective devices or clothing that is required to be used or worn:
- a. Safety shoes
- b. Safety glasses
- c. Hearing protection
- d. Hard Hat
- e. Respirators; the respirator requires you to be clean shaven in order to comply with company policies and procedures as well as OSHA Regulations.
- f.fire Retardant clothing
- g. Acid PPE
- Report to the Safety Coordinator, Group Lead or Supervisor any contravention of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations or Company policy
- Must follow all Lock out Tag out (LOTO) guidelines for designated machines
- Must follow all Environmental Policies and Regulations
- Maintain a clean and safe work area
