Job summary

Work In Biotech is seeking a Research Scientist/Senior Scientist to join the Pharmacology team on-site in San Francisco. You will advance oncology targets and radioligand therapy programs, with emphasis on tumor biology, target expression, mechanism of action, and tumor response.

You will perform bench experiments and collaborate across discovery, radiochemistry, and in vivo pharmacology to drive programs forward.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Job Title: Research Scientist/Senior Scientist

Our mission is to transform the precision oncology landscape by integrating protein engineering and radiochemistry to create next-generation targeted radiotherapeutics that deliver potent and selective tumor cell killing.

As part of a multidisciplinary founding team, you will work alongside experts in protein science and oncology to help bring our first candidates from concept to clinic.

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated scientist to join our Pharmacology team. The successful candidate thrives in a highly collaborative, entrepreneurial environment, and wants the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution across multiple aspects of drug discovery. This person enjoys working at the bench, and will play an important role in evaluating and advancing oncology targets and therapeutic programs, with particular emphasis on understanding tumor biology, target expression, mechanism of action, and tumor response. This is an on-site position.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and execute experiments to characterize and validate oncology targets and therapeutic programs.
• Develop a deep understanding of target biology, including expression, localization, internalization, disease progression, and tumor accessibility.
• Design, develop and optimizein vitrocell-based assays for screening of biologics and conduct binding, kinetic, internalization and cytotoxicity assays.
• Develop assays using flow cytometry, fluorescence microscopy, western blot, qPCR, IHC and ELISA techniques for screening or understanding target biology.
• Work closely with colleagues across drug discovery, protein engineering, radiochemistry and in vivo pharmacology to advance programs
• Interpret and integrate data across multiple experimental approaches and communicate clear scientific conclusions and recommendations.
• Contribute to experimental prioritization, and go/no-go decisions as part of a cross-functional team.
• Present scientific findings and recommendations clearly in research meetings.
• Ensure strict adherence to ionizing radiation safety protocols and internal guidelines for handling radioactive materials; promote a regulatory compliance culture.
• Accurately document experiments and maintain electronic lab notebooks (Benchling) in a timely manner.

Basic Qualifications:

• Education: Master’s degree in Biological Science or a related field with 10+ years’ experience, or a Ph.D. with 2-5 years of relevant industry experience.
• Strong understanding of cancer biology.
• Demonstrated experience driving research projects from experimental design through execution, analysis and interpretation.
• Strong hands-on laboratory experience with cellular and molecular
• biology techniques, including but not limited to flow cytometry, fluorescence microscopy, RT-PCR, ELISA, western blot, and IHC techniques.
• Ability to independently think through scientific problems, design experiments, troubleshoot, and interpret data while working closely with colleagues.
• Maintain thorough and detailed records of experimental procedures and results using electronic laboratory notebooks
• A strong desire to work in a dynamic startup environment is essential.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Radiopharmaceutical experience preferred but not required.
• Experience with in vivo work, IV dosing and ex vivo animal tissue
• processing is a plus.
• Proficiency with bio-tools such as Excel, GraphPad Prism, and Benchling.
• Strong communication skills to work within a multidisciplinary team environment.
• Demonstrated track record in managing multiple projects and prioritizing tasks to meet schedules and timelines.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to present effectively to teams.
