Job summary

BioTalent is seeking a Scientist – Biologics Formulation Development to join a growing biopharmaceutical program in Costa Mesa, CA. The role focuses on biologics formulation development, stability studies, and analytical characterization to advance candidate therapies.

You will design experiments, interpret data, and collaborate with upstream/process development teams, MSAT, and analytics to deliver robust formulations and support client projects.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 4–6 years of relevant experience in biologics formulation and analytical characterization.
  • Experience with stability studies and formulation development.
  • Experience with protein characterization techniques (DSF, DSC, DLS) is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead biologics formulation development activities including pre-formulation, excipient screening, and stability studies
  • Support protein characterization and analytical testing for biologics programs
  • Develop high-concentration protein formulations and address aggregation, viscosity, and solubility challenges
  • Design experiments, analyze data, and prepare technical reports
  • Design and interpret analytical testing strategies for formulation studies
  • Serve as a technical subject matter expert (SME) during client proposals, presentations, and project reviews
  • Conduct analytical characterization including: collaboration with Upstream Process Development, Analytical Sciences, MSAT, Manufacturing, and Program Management
  • Maintain quality and safety compliance
  • Mentor junior scientists and support continuous improvement initiatives

What You'll Do
  • Lead biologics formulation development activities including pre-formulation assessments, excipient screening, and stability studies
  • Support protein characterization and analytical testing for biologics programs
  • Develop high-concentration protein formulations and address aggregation, viscosity, and solubility challenges
  • Design experiments, analyze data, and prepare technical reports and development summaries
  • Design and interpret analytical testing strategies for formulation studies
  • Serve as a technical subject matter expert (SME) during client proposals, presentations, and project reviews
  • Conduct analytical characterization including:

What We're Looking For
  • Master's degree/Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Chemistry, or a related field, with a minimum of 4–6 years of relevant experience and demonstrated scientific expertise
  • Prior experience in formulation development, stability studies, and analytical characterization of biologics, or a strong background in biochemical and biophysical characterization of proteins with a deep understanding of protein structure and function
  • Hands-on experience or exposure with:
  • Stability Studies
  • DLS, DSF, and DSC
  • Biophysical and Analytical Techniques
  • Compensation: $85,000 to $107,100 annually
