Job description

Position Information

Position/Rank: Assistant or Associate Professor

Department: 00255 - Radiation Oncology Som

City: Salt Lake City, UT

Track: Tenure Track

New Position to Begin: TBD by availability

Details:

The Department of Radiation Oncology and Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI) has an opening for a basic science or early translational lab-based investigator at the Assistant or Associate Professor level (tenure track). Specific areas of interest include stem cell biology, tissue regeneration, and the tumor microenvironment, with a focus on modulating the response to and recovery from cancer therapies, including radiation and immunotherapies. A track record of research involving ionizing radiation or other cancer therapies is welcome but not mandatory, provided the candidate is willing to incorporate these areas into future investigations. Preference will be given to candidates who have conducted research with translational potential, such as utilizing specimens obtained from human patients or conducting studies using preclinical models with a clear path to eventual clinical testing.

The investigator’s scientific program will be housed within HCI, providing an opportunity to conduct collaborative work with clinician investigators in the Department of Radiation Oncology and the broader HCI community, and the University of Utah. These combined entities offer a robust research environment, and the candidate is expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to national and international collaborative research while initiating and facilitating interdisciplinary projects within HCI and the University of Utah. HCI and the University Health Sciences Center provide access to state-of-the-art equipment and services through exceptional Core Facilities (see www.cores.utah.edu and https://uofuhealth.utah.edu/huntsman/shared-resources), which enhance both discovery and translational science. HCI also features state-of-the-art laboratories, including a new 225,000 sq. ft. research building. For more information about HCI, visit https://healthcare.utah.edu/huntsmancancerinstitute/.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants for the Assistant Professor level are expected to hold a PhD (or equivalent), have received appropriate postdoctoral training (minimum 2-3 years), and have demonstrated a track record of research impact and productivity. Applicants for the Associate Professor level should additionally have a proven record of independent funding, ideally from the NIH/DOD/NASA, as well as lead an innovative research program. Highly competitive recruitment packages are available, with an appointment and rank in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Utah, coupled with an appointment as an HCI Lab Investigator.

Application Instructions:

Candidates should submit a curriculum vitae, a cover letter describing their professional experience (including scientific accomplishments and 3 references), and a 3-page research plan.
