Job summary

The Simons Foundation is seeking a Software and Infrastructure Engineer to support the Scientific Computing Core’s infrastructure, deploying and maintaining services both on prem and in the cloud. You will collaborate with scientists and engineering teams to deliver scalable, efficient computing resources in New York City.

This full-time role focuses on developing automation, APIs, and tooling to optimize workflows and support reproducible research using GPUs, ML, and distributed systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, computational science, mathematics, physics, neuroscience, biology or related field or equivalent experience.
• 2–5 years of professional software engineering, cloud or research computing experience.
• Proficiency in Python; experience with Go, Java, C++, C# or similar.
• Experience with Linux environments.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP or Azure).
• Experience with containers (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes) is highly desirable.
• Experience diagnosing software and infrastructure issues and optimizing workloads.

Responsibilities

• Develop, deploy and maintain software, services and tools for scientific computing and data-intensive research.
• Translate research requirements into practical software, cloud and infrastructure solutions.
• Support and troubleshoot scientific applications across Linux, cloud, containerized, and distributed environments.
• Diagnose performance, reliability and resource-utilization issues and optimize workloads.
• Develop automation, APIs and operational tools to improve deployment and monitoring.
• Support reproducible scientific workflows involving large datasets, ML, GPUs or other advanced computing technologies.
• Evaluate emerging technologies for scientific applications and collaborate across teams.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
