The Simons Foundation seeks a Software and Infrastructure Engineer to maintain and grow Flatiron Institute’s scientific computing resources. The role involves deploying software, supporting scientific applications, and optimizing workloads across on-prem and cloud environments.

Based in New York City, the position requires 2–5 years of experience in software or cloud engineering, Python proficiency and experience with Docker/Kubernetes, AWS, GCP, or Azure.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, computational science, mathematics, physics, neuroscience, biology or related field.
• 2–5 years of professional software/software infra or research computing experience.
• Proven experience developing and maintaining production software or cloud-based services.
• Strong programming experience in Python and one or more languages (Go, Java, C++, C#).
• Experience with Linux environments and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).

Responsabilités

• Develop, deploy and maintain software and services that support scientific computing and data-intensive research.
• Collaborate with scientists to translate research requirements into practical software and infrastructure solutions.
• Support and troubleshoot scientific applications across Linux, cloud, and containerized environments.
• Diagnose performance and resource-utilization issues and optimize workloads.
• Develop automation, APIs and tools to improve deployment, monitoring and efficiency.
• Support reproducible scientific workflows involving large datasets and ML/AI workloads.
• Evaluate emerging technologies for scientific applications.
• Collaborate across software engineering, infrastructure and scientific teams.
