Job summary

Simons Foundation in New York City seeks a Software and Infrastructure Engineer to maintain and grow its scientific computing resources, both on-prem and in the cloud. The role supports research computing environments, large datasets and GPU-accelerated workflows with a focus on automation and robust software delivery.

You will collaborate across scientists, software engineers, and infrastructure teams, developing scalable solutions, APIs and tooling for reliable, reproducible research workflows

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, computational science, mathematics, physics, neuroscience, biology or a related technical or scientific field, or equivalent professional experience.
• 2 to 5 years of professional software engineering, cloud engineering, research computing or related experience.
• Strong programming experience in Python and one or more additional languages (Go, Java, C++, C#)
• Experience with Linux environments and cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure).
• Experience with containers and containerized environments (Docker); familiarity with Kubernetes or similar orchestration is desirable.
• Experience diagnosing software and infra problems; experience with performance analysis and optimization.
• Experience developing automation, APIs, services or tools to improve deployment and operations.
• Experience with scientific computing, computational research or data-intensive domains is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Develop, deploy and maintain software, services and tools for scientific computing and data-intensive research.
• Collaborate with scientists to translate research requirements into practical software, cloud and infrastructure solutions.
• Support and troubleshoot scientific applications across Linux, cloud, containerized and distributed environments.
• Diagnose performance, reliability and resource utilization issues and optimize workloads.
• Develop automation, APIs and tools to improve deployment, monitoring and efficiency.
• Support reproducible scientific workflows involving large datasets, ML or GPUs.
