Job summary

Henkel in Massachusetts is seeking a senior scientist to lead new product development in coatings within Adhesive Technologies. You will drive projects, develop innovative coating solutions, and guide cross-functional teams to align with strategic objectives.

Required are 7–10 years of industry experience and deep knowledge of functional and protective coatings, polymer science, and surface analysis. The role requires in-office presence five days a week and offers a comprehensive benefits

Qualifications

  • Master’s or PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Sciences, or related field.
  • 7–10 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Strong knowledge of advanced coating technologies including functional and protective coatings, sol-gel systems, UV-curable materials, and hybrid organic-inorganic coatings.
  • Understanding of polymer and surface science including polymer chemistry, crosslinking mechanisms, surface energy, and interfacial interactions.
  • Experience formulating and optimizing coating systems including rheology, adhesion performance, and substrate preparation.
  • Knowledge of nanomaterials and nanoparticle-enabled coating technologies and their impact on material performance.
  • Proficiency in surface analysis and performance testing including contact angle measurement, environmental exposure, and durability testing.
  • Experience applying statistical analysis and Design of Experiments (DOE) to support product development and process optimization.
  • Experience with materials characterization techniques such as SEM, AFM, optical microscopy, FTIR, DSC, and TGA.
  • Ability to work 5 days in office.

What You´ll Do
  • Execute new product development projects
  • Develop new approaches, solutions, processes, and products within an agreed timeframe
  • Manage projects and resources to meet planned objectives
  • Ensure compliance with safety, health, environmental (SHE), and laboratory standards
  • Provide technical support services to Manufacturing and Quality as required
  • Execute processes and develops solutions to support cross-functional teams in successfully completing new technology product initiatives that align with the organization's strategic objectives
  • Ensure all new products meet international chemical health and safety requirements and other regulations
  • Ensure that Henkel's new IP is protected through collaboration with internal and external partners
  • Provide guidance and recommendations on patents, trademarks and proprietary agreements
  • Conduct and evaluate product stability and performance testing
What makes you a good fit

The salary range for this role is $95,000.00 and $110,000.00. This range represents the good‑faith minimum and maximum wages the Company reasonably expects to offer for this role at the time of posting. In addition to base salary, this position may be eligible for incentive pay or other forms of compensation, as applicable. The Company also offers a comprehensive benefits package as described above. Actual compensation will be based on factors such as the candidate’s skills, experience, education, training, and work location.
