Job summary

Johnston Community School District is seeking a part-time Building Associate to support staff and students during the school day. The role focuses on assisting in classrooms, supervising students, and helping with materials, attendance, and daily routines.

Starting immediately, you will work 10:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m., with benefits including IPERS and health options. A high school diploma or GED is required, and a background check will be completed upon offer.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Ability to relate to all children regardless of needs and/or abilities.
• Possess collaborative and interpersonal skills.
• Successful completion of a criminal background check and physical capacity profile test will be required upon offer.

Responsibilities

• Assists in the supervision of students in the classroom and other areas of the school facility (bus arrival/dismissal, lunch/recess, field trips, drills).
• Assists staff in preparation of materials (reproducing materials, correcting papers, preparing bulletin boards).
• Works with group or individual students under the teacher’s direction (classroom management, homework help, technology support).
• Maintains records for individual students and reports to building administration.
• Keeps teachers informed of relevant student-related matters and assists office staff as needed.
• Records attendance and lunch counts at the start of each kindergarten class and reports to the office.
• Assists in integrating special education students in the regular classroom and supports IEP development.
