Job summary

CER Education is recruiting a Teaching Assistant (Learning Support Assistant) to work in a partner SEN school in Durham. You will support pupils aged 2–19 with SEN, delivering tailored interventions and promoting inclusive learning under the guidance of the class teacher.

This role welcomes current students, graduates or experienced candidates, with at least 3 months' relevant experience. Term-time only, 8:30am–4:30pm.

Qualifications

  • Current students or graduates studying relevant fields such as Psychology, Nursing or Sports Coaching.
  • At least 3 months of relevant experience as a support worker, mental health practitioner, sports coach, teacher assistant, or within childcare or residential settings.
  • Level 2 or Level 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools encouraged but not essential.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individualised support to students aged 2–19 with SEN.
  • Collaborate with the class teacher to deliver tailored interventions and strategies.
  • Foster an inclusive learning environment and promote student engagement.
  • Assist with EHCP implementation and monitoring.
  • Support academic and social development and life skills.
  • Provide pastoral and emotional support to students.
  • Assist with managing behaviour in the classroom.
  • Support on school trips and life skills lessons.

Between the hours of 8:30am – 4:30pm, Monday to Friday

Pay £14.25 to £17.29 per hour

CER Education is recruiting a Teaching Assistant (also known as a Learning Support Assistant) to work in one of our partner SEN schools in Durham.

The school is an alternative provision for students with special educational needs (SEN), including Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) and Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD).

What the role involves:
  • Provide individualised support to students between the ages of 2 and 19 years old with SEN
  • Work closely with the class teacher to deliver tailored interventions and support strategies
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment, encouraging student engagement and confidence
  • Assist with the implementation of Individual Education Healthcare Plans (EHCPs)
  • Support students in both academic and social development, helping them to build essential life skills
  • Provide pastoral care and emotional support, ensuring students feel safe and valued
  • Support the class teacher with managing behaviour within the classroom
  • Supporting on school trips, outreach days and life skills lessons

  • Current students or graduates studying relevant fields including Psychology, Nursing or Sports Coaching
  • Anyone with at least 3 months’ relevant experience as a support worker, mental health practitioner, sports coach, teacher assistant, or within childcare or residential settings
  • A Level 2 or Level 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools is not essential, but candidates with these qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply
