Job summary

Milk Education is currently recruiting Learning Support Assistants to work across primary schools in North Durham. This in-person role offers daily engagement with pupils, supporting their learning and development, and providing a familiar, consistent presence in classrooms.

Hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 3:30pm, with a daily rate of £107.71. The role suits those with a passion for supporting children, a positive attitude, and recent experience in education or childcare.

Qualifications

  • A Level 2 or 3 qualification in childcare or education (preferred).
  • Recent experience working in a school or education setting (preferred).
  • Positive attitude and enthusiasm for children's learning.
  • Patience and a calm approach to assisting others.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Encouraging independence by helping pupils develop communication and self-management skills.
  • Providing one-to-one or small group assistance.
  • Inspire children to engage in lessons consistently.
  • Maintaining safeguarding and confidentiality, following school policies.

Learning Support Assistant – Main Responsibilities:
  • Encouraging independence by helping pupils develop communication and self-management skills
  • Supporting learners by providing one-to-one or small group assistance
  • Inspire children to engage in lessons consistently
  • Maintaining safeguarding and confidentiality, following school policies

A Learning Support Assistant plays a vital role in helping pupils thrive both academically and personally. This rewarding position offers the opportunity to support students throughout their educational journey, helping to build their confidence, independence, and engagement with learning. The role primarily involves working with individuals and small groups, providing tailored support to help pupils overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.

Learning Support Assistant – Requirements or Skills:
  • Positive attitude and enthusiasm for supporting children’s learning
  • Patience and a calm approach to assisting others
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • A Level 2 or 3 qualification in childcare, education or similar — or equivalent hands‑on experience (preferred)
  • Recent experience working in a school or education setting (preferred)
