Job summary

Lincoln Consolidated Schools is seeking an Elementary School Social Worker (0.5 FTE) to deliver social services and instructional support aimed at improving students' social and psychological functioning. The role includes assisting identified students with personal and family issues, and participating in planning, advocacy, and mentorship activities.

Qualifications include a Master’s in Social Work (MSW) and full approval from the Michigan Department of Education; Early Intervention experience

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW) required.
• Early Intervention experience preferred.
• Must have full approval from the Michigan Department of Education as a School Social Worker.
• Section 504 experience preferred.
• Experience with EI, LD, CI, OHI and ASD; knowledge of related evaluation and service delivery.
• Strong clinical, diagnostic, consultative and communication skills.
• Familiar with special education law, theory, service delivery and procedures.
• Certification in or willing to be trained in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention techniques.
• Alternatives to the above qualifications may be acceptable per board decisions.
• Criminal background check required by the State of Michigan.

SUMMARY

The Social Worker provides social services and instructional assistance to improve the social and psychological functioning of students identified as functioning at a higher risk or with the greatest potential for academic failure. The Social Worker provides additional support services for students and families beyond the scope and sequence of regular social work services respective to the students’ needs. The Social Worker will assist identified students by helping them cope with and resolve issues in their everyday lives, such as family and personal issues. In addition, the Social Worker will conduct research, advocate for improved services, and/or become involved in planning or academic mentorship and monitoring of students.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

• Applicant must have at least a Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW).
• Early Intervention experience preferred.
• Applicant must have full approval from the Michigan Department of Education as aSchool Social Worker.
• Previous Section 504 experience preferred.
• Training, expertise and experience with a variety of disabilities including EI, LD, CI, OHI and ASD, including specific knowledge and experience in the evaluation of emotional impairment andAutism Spectrum Disorder.
• Strong clinical, diagnostic, consultative and communication skills.
• Demonstrated familiarity with special education law, theory, service deliveryand procedures.
• Certification in or willingnessto be trained in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention techniques.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
