Qualifications

• Proficiency in American Sign Language.
• Associates degree or Bachelor’s degree in interpreting, deaf studies or related field preferred.
• State Board of Education Initial Sign Language Interpreter Certificate (as applicable).
• Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) certificate (as applicable).
• Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) certification (as applicable).
• Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice.
• Current CPR if applicable.
• TB questionnaire/PPD or chest x-ray if applicable.
• Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation).
• Must meet all federal, state and local requirements.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.

The Educational Sign Language Interpreter is a trained professional who facilities communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and others within an educational setting.
