Job summary

Amergis is seeking an Educational Sign Language Interpreter to facilitate communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and others within an educational setting. The interpreter will render ASL and spoken language to ensure access to classroom instruction, activities, and discussions.

Applicants should have ASL proficiency and relevant degrees or certifications, plus compliance with state/federal requirements.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in American Sign Language.
• Associates or Bachelors in interpreting, deaf studies or related field preferred.
• State Board of Education Initial Sign Language Interpreter Certificate (as applicable).
• EIPA certificate (as applicable per state regulation or client requirement).
• RID certification (as applicable per state regulation or client requirement).
• Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice.
• Current CPR if applicable.
• TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable.
• Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation).
• Must meet all federal, state and local requirements.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.

Job description

The Educational Sign Language Interpreter is a trained professional who facilitates communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and others within an educational setting. Often, American Sign Language (ASL) is used to interpret spoken language into sign language and vice versa, which ensures students have accommodations to classroom instruction, activities and learning discussions.

Minimum Requirements:

• Proficiency in American Sign Language
• Associates degree or Bachelors degree in interpreting, deaf studies or related field, preferred
• State Board of Education Initial Sign Language Interpreter Certificate (as applicable)
• Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) certificate (as applicable per state regulation or client requirement)
• Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) certification (as applicable per state regulation or client requirement)
• Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice
• Current CPR if applicable
