Job summary

The City of Fort Worth is hiring a Senior Professional Engineer to advance Vision Zero initiatives within the Planning/Engineering team. You will engage with residents, evaluate traffic safety concerns, and help design and implement infrastructure solutions to reduce fatalities and injuries.

As a lead on Safe Routes to School and ADA/Sidewalk programs, you will supervise a small team, coordinate projects from concept to completion, and ensure timely delivery while aligning with the city’s safety

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field required.
  • Three years of professional civil engineering experience with two years in traffic safety.
  • Texas PE registration required; out-of-state license must obtain TX within 6 months.
  • Valid driver's license required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership to a team of three (1 engineer, 2 technicians).
  • Develop safety countermeasure concepts and coordinate with contractors.
  • Process public service requests, coordinate field investigations and data collection.
  • Manage pedestrian infrastructure projects with scopes, schedules, budgets.
  • Use VueWorks to plan and maintain records of transportation assets.
  • Develop sidewalk contract documentation and ensure compliance.

Pay Range: $93,574 - $121,646 annual compensation

Sign-on Incentive: *** $5,000 Sign-On Incentive: 50% paid upon completion of the first pay period, 50% paid after 6 months of employment. ***

Workdays & Hours: Monday – Friday 7am – 4pm; Some evening/weekend work may be required. Remote or hybrid work may be considered after completing a successful probation period and are subject to department approval. After probation, typical schedules include 1-2 remote workdays.

The City of Fort Worth seeks a Senior Professional Engineer to serve on a dynamic team responsible for Vision Zero implementation. If you enjoy interacting with the public and developing innovative approaches to meeting community’s safety needs, this role is for you! The Planning/Engineering team serves a critical role in receiving traffic safety concerns, coordinating field investigations and data collection, and recommending and implementing infrastructure solutions. The Sr. Professional Engineer will play a pivotal role in the implementation of the City’s Vision Zero Safety Action Plan, specifically in the Safe Routes to School and the ADA & Sidewalk Programs. The Plan includes a suite of 34 policy and program improvements as well as 10 infrastructure projects that will help the City eliminate traffic fatalities and serious injuries.

Minimum Qualifications: (Mirror official job description in bullet format)

  • A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in civil engineering or related field
  • Three (3) years of increasingly responsible professional civil engineering experience, of which two years is in performing traffic safety studies or implementation of traffic safety countermeasures
  • Possession of registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Texas. If licensed in another state, continued employment will be contingent upon obtaining registration as a Professional Engineer within the State of Texas within six months of employment
  • A valid Driver's License

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience applying the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, Public Right-of-Way Accessibility Guidelines, AASHTO Policy on Geometric Design of Highways and Streets or the National Association of City Transportation Officials Design Guidelines to safety projects
  • Experience performing traffic safety studies, such as sidewalk audits, school zone, crosswalk or warning beacon studies
  • Experience managing and implementing safety construction projects, such as crosswalks, sidewalks, roadway/pedestrian illumination or warning beacons

The Sr. Professional Engineer – Transportation job responsibilities include: job responsibilities include:

  • Provide leadership and supervision to a team of three which includes one engineer and two engineering technicians
  • Develop safety countermeasure concepts and coordinate with contractors and department teams to implement safety projects
  • Complete service requests from the public, which includes communicating with residents, coordinating field investigations and data collection, recommending solutions and implementing short-term countermeasures such as signs, markings, flashing beacons, sidewalk and ramps
  • Perform project for pedestrian infrastructure and school traffic safety projects, including developing and managing scopes, schedules, and budgets in support of the team’s Annual Work Plan
  • Use VueWorks Enterprise Asset Management System to plan, track, and maintain accurate records of new installations and work performed on existing transportation assets
  • Perform sidewalk contract development and procurement for the sidewalk contract and serve as the compliance manager
