Job summary

The City of Roanoke seeks a Virginia DCJS certified Police Officer to serve as a School Resource Officer (SRO) in the Roanoke City School system on a part-time basis. The SRO engages with students, staff, and parents to promote safety and build positive police/community relationships.

The officer serves one school, acts as teacher, role model, and counselor, with duties spanning classroom instruction, incident reporting, and coordination with school administrators.

Qualifications

• Must be Virginia DCJS certified as a police officer.
• SRO certification preferred but not required.
• Ability to interact effectively with students, staff and parents.

Responsibilities

• Teach and engage with students by delivering approved curriculum and classroom activities.
• Enforce law and maintain safety on Roanoke City School property and events.
• Provide counseling and referrals to students as needed.
