Job summary

The Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice is seeking a School Resource Officer for Muscogee YDC in Midland, GA. The role focuses on maintaining security, enforcing laws, and ensuring a safe educational environment within the detention setting.

Qualified candidates will have a high school diploma or GED, GA POST certification, and the ability to meet physical agility standards. This is a full-time on-site position with comprehensive benefits and a path for advancement.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and successful completion of Georgia P.O.S.T. Basic Mandate Law Enforcement Training.
• GA P.O.S.T. certified peace officer (PBLE) in good standing as defined by GAPOST Council.
• You will be subject to a reference check and criminal background check, where applicable.
• Physical agility standards may be required and tested per agency policy.

Responsibilities

• Performs all law enforcement related duties in a professional manner consistent with procedures and directives.
• Provide security clearance for each student entering the secure area of the building.
• Regularly conduct walkthroughs of classrooms, hallways and school offices.
• Address students who are disruptive, inappropriately dressed, late, and/or absent.
• Facilitates safety drills as required by the Georgia Preparatory Academy.
• Inspect areas for contraband and safety breaches after movements and sessions.
• Monitor security equipment and camera systems and report issues promptly.
• Meets with supervisors and staff to increase student involvement.
• Assist in planning weekly student success meetings and coordinating monthly parent meetings.
• Stand for extended periods as part of the job.
• Facilitate group discussions on law enforcement topics.
