Job summary

The City of Hampton is hiring a School Resource Officer to patrol Hampton City Schools, enforce laws, and build trust with students and staff. You will mentor students, deliver law-related instruction, and serve as a link between the Police Division and the school community.

Qualified candidates are Virginia DCJS certified police officers with a proven ability to work under pressure, communicate effectively, and collaborate with school administrators and families.

Qualifications

• Must be a Virginia DCJS certified police officer.
• Ability to handle stressful situations and follow policies.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Patrol Hampton City Schools and school events to prevent crime.
• Provide classroom instruction on law enforcement topics.
• Mentor students, liaise with school staff, and coordinate with administrators.
• Investigate incidents, make arrests, and coordinate with prosecutors.
• Respond to complaints and maintain a safe learning environment.
