Purpose Statement

The role of the School Psychologist Intern is to measure and interpret the intellectual, adaptive, academic, social, and emotional development of children, interpret results of psychological studies, apply state and federal codes, and develop strategies and interventions to address the special education needs of eligible students. This position reports to the Program Coordinator and the Executive Director of Special Services.

Essential Functions

• Conduct standardized assessments, complete documentation for initial and re-evaluations, and facilitate multidisciplinary teams to properly identify students with disabilities in adherence to state and federal requirements.
• Provide consultation and lead problem‑solving meetings.
• Assist with data analysis at the student, class, and building levels.
• Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments and assist with accommodations, modifications, and the creation of Behavior Intervention Plans.
• Provide individual/group counseling and social skills instruction as needed for students with disabilities.
• Conduct Section 504 evaluations and participate in student plan development.
• Participate in professional growth activities and demonstrate a sense of professional responsibility.
• Understand and adhere to all Board policies and procedures.
• Consult and collaborate with teachers, parents, and other district personnel regarding academic and behavioral supports for students.
• Participate in building and district procedures to support students (e.g. Response to Instruction, crisis intervention services).
• Research resources and methods for the purpose of determining the appropriate approach for addressing students’ functional goals.
• Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

School psychology interns assist their supervisors with these duties under direct training and supervision. Supervisors are School Psychologists at Educational Specialist level. Two‑hour group supervision sessions are offered monthly.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

Skills are required to perform multiple, highly complex technical tasks. Specific skill-based competencies include applying assessment instruments; operating standard office equipment and pertinent computer software; preparing and maintaining accurate records.

Knowledge is required to perform basic math, read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and facilitate group discussions. Specific knowledge-based competencies include psychology and educational principles; pertinent codes, policies, regulations, and laws.

Ability is required to schedule activities, meetings, and events; gather, collate, and classify data; use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with a diversity of individuals and groups, manage varied data, and operate equipment. Independent problem solving and analysis are required. Specific ability-based competencies include adapting to changing priorities; communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; meeting deadlines; working as part of a team; and maintaining effective relationships.

Education
