Job summary

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 48 college credits or AA degree or PRAXIS passing score.
• College credits in elementary or special education preferred.
• Previous experience with children as an aide or similar role preferred.
• Ability to operate a computer and related software.

Responsibilities

• Assist teacher with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning.
• Help develop strategies for reinforcing material based on student needs and abilities.
• Assist students with equipment and materials used in class and supervise activities.
• Read to students and encourage reading aloud; participate in oral activities.
• Maintain attendance records and assist with clerical tasks as requested by the teacher.
• Distribute and collect materials; supervise testing and make-up work.
• Substitute for the classroom teacher when needed and communicate student concerns.
• Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards regarding student information.
