Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• 48 college credits or AA degree or a passing PRAXIS score.
• College credits in elementary or special education preferred.
• Previous experience working with children as an aide or similar role preferred.
• Ability to operate a computer and related software.

Responsibilities

• Works with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning materials or skills introduced by the teacher.
• Assists the teacher in devising strategies based on individual students' needs and abilities.
• Helps students master equipment or instructional materials and operates classroom equipment.
• Reads to students, listens to them read, and participates in oral communication with students.
• Assists in attendance records and daily clerical duties as requested by the teacher.
• Distributes and collects workbooks, papers, and other instructional materials.
• Substitutes for the classroom teacher when needed and alerts the regular teacher to any issues.
• Maintains confidentiality of student information and follows ethical guidelines.
• Supervises recess, meals, halls, and other activities as assigned.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
