Job summary

Alabama State Department of Education invites applications for a Child Nutrition Program Worker to support Jefferson County Schools. You will participate in daily food preparation and follow the supervisor's instructions to ensure meals meet menu guidelines.

The position requires standing for long periods, basic kitchen duties, and adherence to safety and health standards, with opportunities to work across several CNP activities and collaborate with staff, vendors, and students.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to meet suitability criteria under Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
• Ability to operate and maintain kitchen equipment.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and work with others.
• Ability to follow Child Nutrition Program guidelines and regulations.
• Ability to use technology as required.
• Possess and maintain required health certifications including tuberculin skin test results.
• Physical stamina to stand, lift up to 25 pounds.
• Punctuality and regular attendance.
• Any alternative qualifications the Board may require.

Responsibilities

• Assists in preparation and service of food according to the written menu and supervisor’s instruction.
• Performs food storage; inventory control; equipment cleaning and sanitation tasks.
• Operates kitchen equipment according to established procedures.
• Works in a courteous and professional manner.
• Participates in CNP activities such as cashier, server, dish machine operator and cleanup.
• Maintains professional dress and hygiene suitable for food service work.
• Observes proper safety precautions in the kitchen and work areas.
• Cooperates with staff to maintain high standards in the child nutrition program.
• Communicates effectively with CNP staff, vendors, school staff, students and parents.
• Participates in trainings and continuing education for self-improvement.
