Job summary

Asheville City Schools in Asheville, NC seeks a School Nutrition Program Coordinator to manage daily operations under the School Food Authority and FSMC contract. You will ensure regulatory compliance, lead staff, monitor budgets, and promote nutrition initiatives across seven cafeterias and nine schools.

The role reports to the Chief Financial Officer and is a key member of the ACS Leadership team, coordinating with FSMC for service quality, efficiency, and student participation in meal

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent educational experience, with academic major in food service, nutrition, business, or related field.
• Public school nutrition program management experience preferred.
• Willingness to meet ongoing continuing education requirements as required by ACS, USDA or state guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Contract Oversight: coordinate with the FSMC to ensure satisfactory performance and compliance with contract terms and School Nutrition program regulations.
• Financial Management: supervise staff, monitor labor costs, assist with budgeting and prepare monthly financial reports.
• Food Production & Operations: ensure high standards for quality, safety, service, and compliance with all policies and regulations.
• Food Safety & Sanitation: lead safety training, ensure regulatory compliance and proper handling of hazardous materials.
• Human Resources & Communications: manage staff development, conduct evaluations, and maintain clear communications with HR and FSMC.
• Market & Community Engagement: promote meal programs, engage with district stakeholders, and build partnerships to increase participation.
• Menu & Nutrition Management: align with USDA menu planning, nutrition standards, and wellness initiatives across the district.
• Procurement & Inventory: follow procurement guidelines and manage inventory with FSMC oversight.
• Program Management & Compliance: oversee reimbursements, audits, reports, and emergency feeding protocols.
