Job summary

Colonial School District is seeking a Cook/Lead Worker in the school kitchen. You will prepare meals, supervise staff, and ensure HACCP compliance and proper food safety standards. Experience with school food service and USDA meal patterns is preferred.

The role requires leadership, dependable attendance, and ability to work with students and staff in a collaborative environment. Position is on-site in a school setting.

Qualifications

• Complete Department of Education Food Service Unit One through Unit Four within two years from date of hire.
• ServSafe certification at time of hire preferred, or within three months from hire/promotion.
• Knowledge of HACCP procedures during food preparation and storage.
• Ability to read recipes and convert measurements to desired quantities.
• Knowledge of USDA Meal Pattern requirements as specified by the USDA Child Nutrition Program.
• Prior outside cooking/baking experience as a school general worker.

Responsibilities

• Shall perform skilled work in the preparation of all menu items according to a pre-planned menu using selected standardized recipes.
• Shall schedule preparation time so that menu items are ready promptly at serving times and batch cooked to ensure quality and freshness.
• Shall prepare daily menu items in appropriate quantity, assuring adequate portions and avoiding over production, and maintain production records and temperature logs.
• Shall implement proper HACCP procedures while receiving, preparing and storing all food according to regulations.
• Shall order, receive, check in, issue, and store food and supplies following HACCP procedures.
• Shall be responsible for proper use, operation and cleanliness of all kitchen equipment and be willing to learn management software.
• Shall assist in maintaining inventories and assist in supervision of staff in the prep area and kitchen operations.
• Shall observe and perform tasks to expedite meal preparation, serving and cleanup, and complete as assigned.
