Job summary

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Must be able to read and write, to use simple arithmetic and to interpret and adjust recipes.
• An initial physical examination is required.
• Meets health and physical requirements throughout the employment period.

Responsibilities

• Attend in-service training, workshops, etc. to gather information for job functions.
• Clean linens, utensils, equipment, and serving areas to maintain sanitary conditions.
• Evaluate prepared food for flavor, appearance, and temperature for student and staff acceptance.
• Inspect food items and supplies to verify quantity, quality, and specifications; comply with health standards.
• Inventory food, condiments, and supplies to meet menu requirements.
• Assist in completing monthly inventories and daily production records; help with auditing.
• Maintain sanitary conditions of equipment and areas in line with health standards.
• Report problems to the manager in kitchen or cafeteria areas.
• Maintain records and reports of leftovers, balances, and money reconciliation.
• Merchandise food and beverages for efficient serving.
• Monitor kitchen and cafeteria areas for safe procedures and cleanliness.
• Oversee preparation, cooking, and serving of food to meet nutritional needs and allergies.
• Perform functions of other nutrition staff as needed to ensure adequate coverage.
• Prepare food and beverages according to recipes and procedures to meet requirements.
• Receive stock and store items using FIFO and safe handling procedures.
• Report supplies and equipment malfunctions to the cafeteria manager.
• Plan and calculate food supply and preparation needs for the next day.
• Serve appropriate portions to meet nutritional requirements and requests.
• Collect money during serving and reconcile with reports.
• Maintain personal appearance and hygiene per policy.
• Perform related duties as assigned by the School Nutrition Manager.
