Job summary

The Stepping Stones Group is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for a contracted, school-based placement in Newark, NJ for the 2026-2027 school year. This is a full-time Building Nurse role supporting a local K-12 district with nursing services.

You will provide first aid, monitor students with chronic conditions, administer medications, and lead emergency responses. The role includes collaboration with parents, staff, and ongoing professional support.

Qualifications

• Active RN license valid in New Jersey.
• Graduate of an accredited ADN or BSN program.
• Two years of experience required (no exceptions).
• Experience with pediatric diabetic management and Trach management.

Responsibilities

• Provide first aid and manage everyday illnesses on campus.
• Monitor students with chronic conditions and administer medications per orders.
• Verify medical orders and document medication administration.
• Act as lead responder to medical emergencies on campus.
• Train staff on emergency protocols and equipment use.
• Develop and update IHPs/IEPs/504 plans related to medical conditions.
• Collaborate with parents and school staff on medical needs.
• Conduct health screenings (vision, hearing, BMI, blood pressure).
• Delegate and supervise nursing tasks per state regulations.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Active RN license valid in New Jersey
• Graduate of an accredited ADN or BSN program
• Must have 2 years of experience (no exceptions)
• Must have experience with pediatric diabetic management and Trach management
• Current BLS CPR/AED certification
• Knowledge of nurse delegation practices and state scope-of-practice regulations
• Experience working with a pediatric population
• School based experience (preferred)

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Provide first aid and manage everyday illnesses (headaches, stomachaches, injuries)
• Monitor students with chronic conditions (asthma, diabetes, seizures, allergies, mental health conditions) and implement routine and PRN medications and care per orders
• Verify medical orders, document medication administration, and safely administer routine and PRN medications
• Act as the lead responder to medical emergencies on campus
• Train staff on emergency protocols and equipment use
• Develop and update IHPs (Individualized Healthcare Plans), IEPs (Individualized Education Plans), and 504 Plans related to medical conditions; participate in meetings as needed
• Collaborate with parents and school staff regarding students with medical needs
• Conduct or assist with health screenings (vision, hearing, growth/BMI, blood pressure)
• Delegate and supervise nursing tasks in accordance with state regulations
