Job summary

Newark Public Schools is seeking a School Nurse for the Office of Early Childhood in Newark, New Jersey. The appointment is contingent on funds and Board approval. The Superintendent invites qualified applicants to join the Newark Board of Education.

Qualifications include a New Jersey Department of Education Standard Certificate or Emergency license, a Bachelor's degree, and a current NJ RN license. Preference for five years of RN experience; bilingual abilities are a plus.

Qualifications

• NJ Department of Education certificate or Emergency license as required by the NJDOE certs page
• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university
• Current New Jersey registered professional nurse license issued by the New Jersey State Board of Nursing
• Preferred: five years of RN experience
• Bilingual abilities a plus (Spanish/Portuguese/French Creole)

Responsibilities

• Develops a comprehensive health record on each new student
• Performs routine vision and hearing screenings, weight/height measurements, blood pressure and dental checks
• Interprets health findings to motivate students and involve parents and teachers
• Provides emergency medical care and arranges follow-up as needed
• Counsels parents, teachers and students on medical and health information
• Conducts tuberculin screening programs for staff and students as mandated
• Reviews medical records annually to monitor immunization status
• Provides input into health education programs and serves as health resource in the school
• Administers prescribed treatments and ensures adherence
• Performs other duties within the NJ Nurse Practice Act as assigned
