Job summary

Newark Board of Education invites qualified candidates for the position of School Nurse in the Office of Early Childhood. The role includes developing student health records, performing screenings, interpreting findings to families, and coordinating emergency care with appropriate resources.

Qualifications

NJ DOE certificate or eligible for emergency license as deemed necessary by NJDOE.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Current New Jersey registered professional nurse license issued by the NJ State Board of Nursing.
Preferred minimum of five years’ experience as a registered nurse.
Bilingual ability; read/write/speak English; Spanish/Portuguese/French Creole a plus.

Responsibilities

Develops a comprehensive health record for each new student and maintains immunization data.
Performs routine vision/hearing, weight, blood pressure, and dental screenings; refers when needed.
Interprets findings to parents/teachers and guides families to appropriate resources.
Provides emergency medical care and arranges follow-up care as needed.
Counsels families and staff on health matters and signs of disease.
