Job summary

Akron Children's Hospital seeks a part-time Medical Assistant to support the school-based health program. The role involves clinical and administrative tasks under a Provider or Licensed Nurse, including taking vitals, phlebotomy as needed, and assisting with exams in a school setting.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent and completion of an approved MA program (MA, EMT, or Paramedic). BLS certification is required; CMA/RMA certification is preferred.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of medical terminology required.
• Experience in healthcare environment preferred.
• Experience with EPIC or similar EMR systems preferred.
• Completion of an approved Medical Assistant certificate program or equivalent is required.
• BLS certification is required.
• Medical Assistant certification (CMA or RMA) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Interfaces with patients and families to provide care coordination.
• Prepares patients for examination; records vital signs; assists with procedures.
• Collects data for patient assessments and discharge planning.
• Collects and processes laboratory specimens per policy.
• Documents care accurately in the medical record.
• Performs department-specific clinical duties (POCT, hearing/vision screenings).
• Maintains exam rooms and assists with administrative tasks as needed.
• Develops positive relationships with patients, families, and school staff.
