Job summary

Washoe County School District is hiring a Nutrition Services Worker I to assist in preparing and serving meals at a school site or central kitchen. The role requires adherence to safety rules and the ability to work with student workers and teachers.

Responsibilities include operating kitchen equipment, stocking groceries, serving meals and maintaining a sanitary environment. A Safeschools course within one year is required.

Qualifications

• Six (6) months to one (1) year of preparing and serving food; institutional food service experience is desired.
• Completion of a two (2) hour Safeschools course is required within the first year of employment.
• Knowledge of reading, writing in English and basic math; basic food preparation, safe working practices, sanitary food handling and storage techniques.
• Read, write and follow verbal and written instructions in English; operate commercial kitchen equipment; operate commercial packaging equipment; lift/carry up to 40 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Operates, maintains and cleans commercial kitchen equipment and utensils.
• Sets up serving equipment, containers and carts with dishes and food.
• Prepares, serves and cleans up breakfast, lunch and a la carte items.
• Supervises and assists student workers as needed; may train NS Trainees.
