Job summary

Gersh Autism Academy in Queens, NY seeks a full-time Maintenance staff to keep the school clean, safe, and well-maintained. The role requires daily cleaning, basic repairs, and coordination for events, with a Monday–Friday schedule from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

You will work under minimal supervision, inspect facilities, manage supplies, and report health and safety hazards. A valid driver’s license is preferred due to occasional site visits.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum one-year experience cleaning/custodial/janitorial.
• Background check and pre-employment requirements will be conducted.

Responsibilities

• Support cleaning and maintenance of the building.
• Complete daily cleaning check lists for each room and deep cleaning schedules.
• Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building systems.
• Secure the building daily by shutting off lights and performing a walk-through of the entire building.
• Follow procedures for chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
• Perform basic electrical, plumbing and handyman repairs such as painting, re-lamping, furniture assembly and light carpentry.
• Monitor inventory levels of maintenance materials and supplies.
• Coordinate classroom and building moves requiring heavy items.
• Report health and safety hazards to management.
