Job summary

Gersh Autism is seeking a Maintenance professional to support cleaning, maintenance, and safety of our school facilities in Queens, NY. This full-time role requires at least one year of custodial experience and a High School Diploma or GED.

Responsibilities include daily cleaning tasks, safety-compliance, minor repairs, and coordinating moves. Valid driver's license and ability to work varied hours are preferred for on-site duties.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Minimum one-year experience cleaning/custodial/janitorial.
• Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check.

Responsibilities

• Support the cleaning and maintenance of the building.
• Complete daily cleaning checklists for assigned rooms and deep cleaning schedules.
• Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems.
• Secure the building daily by turning off lights and performing a walk-through to ensure all windows and doors are closed and secured.
• Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
• Responsible for basic electrical, plumbing and handyman repairs, such as painting, relamping, furniture assembly & repair, and light carpentry.
• Monitor inventory levels of maintenance materials and supplies and requisition needed items.
• Coordinate classroom and building moves which require moving heavy furniture, equipment, and supplies.
• Report health and safety hazards to management and work with minimal supervision within a team.
• Clear walkways and steps in inclement weather; spread rock salt or sand for safety; snow removal as needed.
• Event setup and breakdown; arrange or remove decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, or scaffolding for events.
• Communicate effectively with employees, contractors and vendors.
• Be prepared to pivot priorities quickly amid interruptions and stay on your feet for extended periods.
• Maintain attention and focus in a dynamic environment and work as part of a team.
